Suicide Averted
He walked in the
house to see a note on the table, trying to hold back the tears from what he
read, he was not able. His wife had left him and took the kids too, he walked
around the dark house not knowing what to do. He lost his job, the bills were
due, thinking about all the arguments of things he said to her that were
untrue. His life was now empty with a great void to fill, he had no words to say,
and he couldn't find the will.
He looked out the
window to watch the storm that had just rolled in, worrying about his problems
believing he just couldn't win. Was his life now worth living, he began
reliving his failures and all his misgivings. Thoughts of depression and
suicide began to flood his mind, he was alone in that house and felt very
confined. If only there was some glimmer of hope that would shake this feeling
loose, to brighten his day, to break through the abstruse.
Walking toward his
room he had had enough; he would take his own life and be released from this
stuff. He went to the closet and pulled out his gun, the magazine was loaded,
but he only needed one. Loading the chamber, he pointed it toward his head, he
thought to himself this will soon be over and I will be dead.
Looking around the
room he spotted the family Bible next to the bed, and he contemplated reading
it to see what it said. Flipping it open it fell on Isaiah forty-one, and
after reading verse ten he put down the gun. He called out to God with tears
flowing down his cheeks, he emptied his heart out with such horrible sounding
shrieks. He got to his knees and began to pray; he asked God to heal him and
take all that pain away.
Just then the phone
rang, his closest friend from church had called because he had serious prayer
pangs. Telling him the whole story he began to build him up, scripture after
scripture he began to fill his cup. He prayed with him there and asked if he’d
be alright, reminding him that he is there for him to win in this fight.
Assuring him he was, he hung up the phone, he got into bed not feeling so
alone. He woke up the next morning with a fresh new perspective, the pain was
still there but it wasn't as effective. He dusted himself off and got in the
Word, a great testimony he had gained from what had just occurred. Time was
then taken for a prayerful renewal; life was now worth living and didn't feel
so cruel.
Many today are
bombarded with these kinds of thoughts; they come from the enemy and cover you
with a filmy dross. Take no thought with what the enemy would say, open the
door for God and let Him show you the way. For your life has meaning and yes
there is a purpose, you were made for more than this, and not just what's on
the surface. For your Father in Heaven loves you more than you can fathom, he
was thinking about you even before He formed Adam. Come spend some time with
Him and get in His Presence, there's fulness of Joy there and He will bring
your convalescence.
